What will I find in the core lessons?
Our core lessons are arranged into four pathways so you can start where you need the most guidance.

Pathway 1: Beginning Writer is for those of you who are just starting the writing process.

Pathway 2: Aspiring Author is for you if you have an outline or have started writing your book but need a bit of help structuring/completing the material.

Pathway 3: Published Author can help you if your book is written, but you’re looking to refine it and get it published.

Pathway 4: Promoting Author is for you if you’ve already published your book and you’re trying to get the word out about it.

Pathway 5: Fiction Writer focuses on the key differences when writing fiction instead of non-fiction, including hooks, plotting a unputdownable page-turner, and more.

Each of these pathways has six modules that build on one another. Within each module, you’ll find an in-depth video lesson from Reid and Kelly, plus you’ll get relevant homework assignments, workbooks, and writing prompts that will help you internalize the information taught in the lesson.

When does the program start?
You'll receive access to all five pathways the day you join. The order you do the pathways is yours to decide. Start with Pathway One and work through them all in order, or jump ahead.
How many active members are in the community at one time?
There are thousands of members in the community but usually around 300 per live Zoom meeting.
How many community member’s books does Hay House publish a year and what genres are accepted?
We guarantee we will publish at least two member’s books per year and the usual requirement of having an agent is waived. We accept proposals from members during two specific times of year for all genres including non-fiction, fiction, card decks, and children’s books.
What genre of book is the Hay House Writer’s Community geared toward?
The writing and publishing process shares many similarities across genres, but fiction does have unique aspects that set it apart from nonfiction. To address these nuances, we’ve introduced a fifth pathway where our fiction guest experts will guide you through everything you need to know.
How often does the opportunity to join this community come up?
We only open enrollment a couple times per year.
How long do people generally stay in the Writer’s Community?
Of course it all depends how quickly you work through the material. With dedication and commitment, you can finish all five Pathways within the year. If you need more time, you can renew your membership for as many years as you like. We have some Founding members who are about to enter their fifth year with us.
If we sign up for the membership, will we get help from Reid and Kelly?
Once a month, Reid and Kelly host live Q&A sessions where you can raise your hand to be called on to ask a question.
When are the live Q&A sessions inside the membership held?
Typically between 9-3 pm PT Monday to Thursday. We vary the days and times to give everyone a chance to attend.
When are the book proposal contests?
We accept proposals from members during two specific times of year. The upcoming contest dates are December 15, 2025 and June 5, 2026.

Still have questions about the membership? We’re standing by with all the answers. Email us at writerscommunity@hayhouse.com.

Whether you're crafting fiction or non-fiction, join the Hay House Writer’s Community and get the exact step-by-step strategies used by Hay House Publishing to create bestsellers.

  • Make your story's details clear as day, understanding how they all connect. This stops never-ending changes and rewrites.
  • Say goodbye to writer's block and unmotivated days. Get the boost you need to finally complete your book with confidence.
  • Never feel isolated again. Join a community of other writers who will make your writing journey fun and supportive.
  • Discover structure and clarity to keep you organized and focused, all the way from your initial idea to finishing the book and beyond.
  • Master the post-publishing process. Finishing your book and promoting it can be exciting and simple. All you need is a thoughtful promotion strategy.

Let’s talk about the book you’ve been carrying inside you.

You’ve felt it for a while now—that quiet knowing that your story matters. But the page stays blank, the outline unfinished, the idea left simmering on the back burner... again.

Maybe life keeps pulling you in other directions.
Maybe perfectionism or doubt whispers:

“Who am I to write a book?”
“What if no one cares?”
“What if I start and don’t finish—again?”

You’re not alone.

So many aspiring writers stay stuck in the loop of ideas without action, passion without a plan. And deep down, there’s a question you might not want to say out loud:

“What if I never actually do it?”

But what if you could?

What if this is the moment you stop pushing your dream aside—and finally start writing the book only you can tell?

You’re ready to start thinking about publication! And not any ordinary book publication. Our lessons are through the lens of the world's largest independently owned mind-body-spirit publishers. In the Published Author pathway, you’ll be:

  • Getting to know how the publishing world works (from those who are on the inside)
  • Refining your masterpiece with the help of an editor including how to hire one
  • Understanding publication timelines and setting realistic expectations for publication day
  • Designing the cover and interior pages of your book in a way that resonates with readers AND publishers
  • Finding a literary agent so you can amplify your presence in the industry
  • Looking into different ways to publish if you want to do it yourself while maintaining quality

Pathway 3: Published Author

Writing a good book starts from scratch. Our writing course starts here because getting the foundation right will set you up for success later. The Beginning Writer pathway teaches you about:

  • Fitting writing into your daily life so it becomes a habit you look forward to
  • Transforming everyday experiences into storytelling gold
  • Capturing the essence of your life’s story and weaving it into your book
  • Organizing your writing time for optimal focus and productivity
  • Bridging the gap between just writing and writing your book
  • Embracing the power of your unique voice and breaking free from the hesitation to use it

Pathway 1: Beginning Writer

So you can clarify your book before you write it and feel confident that you’re starting off with a solid strategy. In the Aspiring Author pathway, you’ll learn about:

  • Uncovering what exactly will keep you continuously motivated throughout the entire writing process
  • Mastering the art of writing an irresistible hook for your book that will attract readers, agents, and publishers
  • Organizing your writing using strategies that only the best editors use for chapter flow and structure
  • Choosing who you’re writing for and how to define your ideal reader audience
  • Overcoming stalled writing progress using a new way to navigate blocks
  • Creating an industry standard book proposal that publishers like Hay House won’t be able to resist

Pathway 2: Aspiring Author

It takes a global leader to show you how to find readers for your book, so our approach is very strategic. In the Promoting Author pathway, your author identity begins to form as you're:

  • Establishing best practices that will have you heading into publication day with a group of ready buyers
  • Leveraging various online mediums to attract and amplify your reach as an author
  • Enticing your reader list with a tool the industry uses time and time again for capturing leads
  • Engaging your readers on a consistent basis with content that keeps them coming back for more
  • Learning where to look for more readers once your “friends and family list” has been exhausted
  • Maximizing your books impact and learning how to repurpose your content in new ways

Pathway 4: Promoting Author

The fiction writer has many of the same concerns as the nonfiction writer, however, there are also key differences that we address in Pathway 5. We will identify how the fiction market has changed significantly in recent years and why it might be an easier sell. The Fiction Writer pathway teaches you about:

  • What fiction readers—and editors!—are looking for
  • Which genres are gaining popularity—and how to identify your own
  • The key elements to include in the hook of your novel
  • Tips for plotting an unputdownable page-turner
  • When it’s okay to use AI to fast-track your book, and when it’s not
  • How to find readers for your novel, and keep them coming back

Pathway 5: Fiction Writer

Start and Finish Your Book with Our Proven Path

This membership is strategically crafted so it’s not a one-size-fits-all experience. In five pathways, you’ll get the lessons and assignments you’ll need whether you’re just beginning…in mid-process…or well on your way to being published.

Holding your published book in your hands is like stepping into a new chapter of your own personal story.

It’s an accomplishment met with pride, exhilaration, deep satisfaction, and liberation.

It’s a moment of validation that your words hold the power to inspire, inform, and influence readers far and wide.

You feel a new sense of purpose as you come to realize that this is just the beginning.

Your journey is rich with possibilities, and you are now able to step onto a broader stage as a published author.
